My Family in Hakone
TAKAHIRO KANEYAMA
2009, digital C-type print, 20 x 24 in (50.8 x 61 cm), from the series "While Leaves are Falling...." series
"For me, these photographs are a vehicle that enables me to travel back and forth between the past and the present. The photographs help me to accept the changes that have taken place and those that are yet to come. My 'While Leaves Are Falling...' series is dedicated to the four women who raised me. In 2018 my aunt Noriko passed away due to multiple myeloma, and in January of 2020, my mother died of aspiration pneumonia.
My interpretation of the exhibition theme centers on the idea of 'touch and connection' through the lens. Photos in this body of work are records of my family connection over the years."
